This is the first time I’ve read anything about this frustration of mine. Thank you so much for this post. It does come out as an extra insult during the holiday season. I correct people, but it persists, year after year!

Thanks so much for the comment. It IS so frustrating and speaks to how deeply attached we are to the status quo.

Students calling me Mrs. Taylor might one day be what breaks me (I didn't take my husband's last name, so it's incorrect on a number of levels). I don't even care about the dr... just call me Emily, anything but Mrs. Taylor! Thanks for this.

As women we give so much of ourselves away so often, again and again. Let's take back our pieces, one name at a time. As usual, so well said.

Thanks Monica! One name at a time ❤️

Despite me repeatedly trying to tell them it’s wrong, our school district keeps giving me my husband’s last name in documents. And many teachers assume that about me, too. This is in progressive Austin.

It’s really something isn’t it? 🤦🏻‍♀️

This drives me crazy! I kept my last night, plus we decided to give that name to my children as their last name (they have my husband’s as a middle name). Everyone still puts our two names hyphenated for our children, instead of just mine, which is incorrect. I’ve gotten my husband’s name added to mine which is completely incorrect. We also will get Christmas cards addressed to just my husband’s last name with family added… even though he’s the only one with that last name in the family. I think people are somehow afraid of hurting his ego (as if he would have gone along with this choice if he was that kind of person) or they are letting you know they are personally offended by your choice. I really don’t understand why people make the decision to do this.
